Ramses Park Location: Cairo, Egypt Client: Cairo Governate Status: design In cooperation with MA_A, Maissa Architectures Ramses Park becomes the green heart of Cairo. A sustainable city needs green. Located at the base of the Nile delta, Cairo has good soil for building parks. Important buidings around the current Ramses square keep their position in or around Ramses Park. This includes the railway station, the Everest hotel, the Lymoun tram station, the railway engineering building and the Al Fateh mosque. A part of the fly-over remains in place and takes on a new function. Centrally located in the park next to the existing road, we will build a 70 meter high panorama tower. The ensemble of buildings and functions has a harmonious look and feel. The development of Ramses Park is the stepping stone for the developments of the surrounding area. On the West side of the park the business district expands with the new Ramses Roundabout building as a starting point. On the other side of the park it focusses on combined functions and apartment areas. From the panorama tower tourists and locals get a stunning view over the city, with ancient, historical and modern architecture surrounding the park. In the background they see the pyramids. An everlasting impression. Imagine the new green Ramses Park with its modern railway station, the electrical mertrobus lines, the elevated Bridge road and the panoramatower from where the Pyramids are visible. Once again, the city becomes …

This talk about the Valley of the Khans Project under Calit2 auspices will be the keynote during the Calit2 General Staff Meeting, preceded by short remarks on the state of Calit2 by division director Ramesh Rao. Abstract: The story of Genghis Khan has until now been spliced together through a collection of almost entirely secondary source text. It has become understood that throughout his rule, he had introduced an alphabet and central currency, united a kingdom of warring tribes, and had conquered the majority of the known world creating an influence that stretched from Poland to Japan. Yet the mystery that surrounds his death and burial during the summer of 1227 still eludes the world today. “If the grave exists and if it were ever found, it would create a revolution in archeology, scholarship, cash-flow and, since China claims Genghis as its own, international relations.” – John Man, ‘Genghis Khan life, death and resurrection,’ Bantam Press, 2004. The objective of this study is to perform a non-invasive archaeological search for the tomb of Genghis Khan utilizing modern tools from a variety of disciplines, including satellite imagery, human computation, computer vision, and non-destructive geophysical surveying. Large arrays of multi-spectral satellite imagery taken of the identified areas of interest are being analyzed to look for possible anomalies within the vast uninhabited landscape of northern Mongolia. These target spots will be subjected to systematic non …

“One of my more artistic pieces. A tribute to the first lady of American painting, Georgia O’ Keeffe.” (Dan Fogelberg) Bones In The Sky ~ Dan Fogelberg (Lyrics) Up through the branches The stars shine above on the arroyos and mesas you loved And as the moon rises, the black mountain mourns For the old friend he’ll look on no more Jacks-in-the-Pulpit, bones in the sky Long winding rivers that never ran dry And the secrets she gathered from the wild blowing sands Breathed in her heart and her hands I sing to your spirit where all my dreams dwell The vision–the freedom, the life lived so well And I sing in your canyons and the echoes ring clear And I wish somehow you may still hear Dan wrote this song to pay a tribute to Georgia OKeeffe, who pass away in Santa Fe, New Mexico (18871986). The artistic brilliance of Georgia O’Keeffe revolutionized modern art in both her time and in the present. With her paintings she vividly portrayed the power and emotion of objects of nature. This was first seen in her charcoal drawings of silhouetted bud-like forms exhibited in 1916 that brought her fame. During the 1920s , she explored this theme in her magnified paintings of flowers which to this day enchant people amorously, although her purpose was to convey that nature in all its beauty was as powerful as the widespread industrialization of the period. After spending a summer in New Mexico, Georgia O’Keeffe, enthralled by the barren landscape and expansive skies of the desert, would …

Lucia Bova performs Postcard from Heaven by John Cage, version for solo harp and pre-recorded sounds realized by Lucia Bova. In Postcard from Heaven (1982), a random composition for solo harp or varied harp ensemble (up to twenty), Cage’s attention to the sound (shown in “Dream” and “In a Landscape” is further emphasized by the use of electronic devices, e-bow, delay and reverbs, and the superimposing of my live sound with a pre-recorded base where I play the parts of other harps, creating a kaleidoscopic multiplication of my sound image. Lucia Bova is Professor of Harp at the “Niccolò Piccinni” Conservatory of Music in Bari.
